Tlayuda

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups fresh masa or corn masa flour maseca
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 Cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl combine masa, water and salt.
  2. Mix with hands until dough is smooth and all the flour has been incorporated.
  3. Divide dough into 4 palm size balls.
  4. Place each ball between two sheets of plastic wrap.
  5. With rolling pin roll the tlayuda to about the size of a dinner plate.
  6. Pre-heat your oven to 450 degrees or Panini maker.
  7. Bake the tlayuda until crispy on baking sheet or place your tlayuda on the Panini maker.
  8. Bake until crisp. About 4 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Assemble~ Spread a layer of beans for base and add your favorite toppings.
  10. Options included - shredded cabbage, pre-cooked pork or meat, pickled red onion, cheese, avocado or salsa.
  11. Serve
