Torticas de Morón

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lime zest divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup Confectioner’s Powdered Sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat shortening and sugar until light and creamy.
  2. Gradually add flour to form a smooth dough.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon lime zest, vanilla extract, and fresh lime juice, mix well.
  4. Place dough onto floured surface and divide into two. Shape each half into 8-inch log.
  5. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Combine powdered sugar and remaining lime zest.
  8. Slice each log into 1/2 inch slices, place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.
  10. Allow to cool a few minutes on baking sheet, while still warm dip cookies in lime zest sugar mixture.
