Have you heard of Galentine’s Day? If you’re a fan of Parks and Recreation you have heard Amy Pohler share her love of Galentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is all about romance, but Galentine’s day is about celebrating lady friends. A holiday I can totally get down. When Ménage à Trois Vodka asked me to shake up a cocktail to celebrate Galentine’s Day I quickly said Yes! Plus I’ll find any excuse to a sip on vodka.
My first thought was to create a martini, but then I thought why not highlight winter citrus in a vibrant cocktail that I knew my girlfriends would love. I decided to highlight the ménage à trois citrus vodka, but wanted a bit of bite in my cocktail so I reached for my beloved ruby red grapefruit. At its peak in the season ruby reds are a South Texas treasure. Bright, juicy they taste of summer. I knew it would pair perfectly with the clean citrus tones of the ménage à trois citrus vodka.
A few grapefruit wedges, a sprinkle of sugar, vodka all topped off by club soda – grapefruit caipiroskas were the only way to celebrate galentine’s day. A caipirosaka is spin on the traditional caipirinha, but made with vodka instead of using cachaca. It is also known as a caipivodka or caipirodka. Shaking up this cocktail requires nothing but a muddler, but the results are a vibrant, clean, crisp cocktail that is always a hit with my friends. I have made caipirosakdas using mango, strawberry and watermelon all with amazing results, so I knew the ruby red grapefruit would be a hit. And boy was it –
If you would like to make a mango, strawberry or watermelon caipirosaka simply follow the recipe below. Salud!
- 4 grapefruit wedges
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 oz ménage à trois citrus vodka
- Club soda
- Garnish – grapefruit slices, candied grapefruit
- Muddle grapefruit wedge together with sugar. Fill glass with ice, add vodka, top with club soda and garnish with grapefruit slices and candied grapefruit.
