Texas grapefruits are at their peak and I cannot get enough of them. I simply adore them and they are their juiciest right in the midst of winter. I always buy bags and bags of them, always fascinated by their radiant interior that makes a marvelous addition to my winter cocktails.
A negroni is a classic bitter, gin based cocktail that highlights the flavor in gin typically made with gin and campari. Today I thought I would share a rendition of this classic cocktail by replacing the campari with Aperol (an Italian aperitif) plus plenty of fresh ruby red grapefruit juice. We’re also skipping the traditional martin glass and serving this tart cocktail on the rocks.
- 1 ounce gin
- 1/2 ounce Aperol
- 1/2 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- Grapefruit twist
- Combine gin, Aperol, grapefruit juice, and lemon juice in an ice-filled shaker; shake gently. Strain into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with grapefruit twist.
