Sweet Life Disclosure: A huge thanks to Cost Plus World Market for sponsoring today’s discussion.

In yesterday’s post I shared how I was going to surprise my mami on Mother’s Day by hosting a special brunch. With the help of World Market and Shutterfly I was organized, prepped and excited to head into the kitchen and prepare a delicious spread. I baked a cake brimming with the flavors of her favorite desserts, churros then I slathered on a thick layer of decadent chocolate frosting because what’s churros without a chocolate is a crime.  And what goes best with cake?

Coffee of course.

Cafe de Olla is a Mexican spiced coffee traditionally brewed in earthenware made with freshly ground coffee, spices and piloncillo.    My mom makes her Café de Olla in a blue enamel pot that is strictly set aside to make café. In the morning when she brewed the café the smell wafted throughout the entire house the smell was intoxicating.

Today I want to share with you a spin on the classic by making café de olla with World Market vanilla bean coffee plus a hint of citrus. Prepared on the stovetop in a saucepan then allowed to steep this café is worth the effort. I grated my piloncillo with a cheese grater and added just a smidge of orange peel to my saucepan. Carefully remove as much if the pith (white part) as possible to avoid any bitterness and adjust the sweetness to suit your palate.

World Market and Shutterfly are teaming together to celebrate Mom by hosting a Cost Plus World Market My Amazing Sweepstakes, look below for information.  Be sure to stop by World Market for great Mother’s Day gift ideas and amazing gift baskets that are sure to be a hit with Mom.
