Blackberry Lime Mocktail

This blackberry lime mocktail is refreshing, tangy and can easily be transformed into a cocktail with a splash of rum or vodka.

When I entertain family or friends, I always like to have a mocktail on-hand for my guests. A few weeks ago, we hosted a small brunch where I set-up a beautiful mimosa bar. I made a blackberry-lime syrup that I topped with champagne. Next, to the champagne bucket, I placed another champagne bucket filled with sparkling mineral water so guests could choose a mimosa or mocktail.

I simmered fresh blackberries with sugar, and plenty of fresh lime juice to create a blackberry lime syrup that is refreshing, tangy with the deepest shade of blackberry color. Hello blackberry lime mocktail.

I love you wild Texas blackberries.

Heat blackberries, sugar and ,lime juice until blackberries begin to break down. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

For the next step, you can do choose to go two ways for your syrup. You can mash the blackberries and spoon into glasses, or you can strain blackberries while pushing down on them to release all the goodness for a thinner berry free syrup. I have tried both ways, both being delicious.

I top my blackberry lime mocktail with sparkling mineral water. It lends effervescence and a subtle mineral flavor without all the addition of additional sugar. You can also make this syrup with coconut sugar, brown sugar, piloncillo or agave.
