I wanted to squeeze in one more Holiday Margarita before the BIG Turkey day.ย  Hey, while you prep your cranberry sauce why notย make the simple syrup for this colorful margarita.ย  A pop of color to your tableย or a dose of sanityย for the busy day.ย ย ย Keepย company busy with a refreshing margarita andย plates of appetizers while youย add the finishing touches to your Holiday meal.ย ย

I plan on making a huge batch ofย cranberry syrup and pumpkin syrup to takeย home this Thanksgiving.ย ย Let’s be honest afterย 10-12 hours in the kitchen,ย your gonnaย needย tequila. Enjoy!ย ย ย ย ย ย

ย

Fresh cranberriesย are simmered with sugar and water to create a simple syrup.ย  I used piloncillo in my simple syrup, but regular sugar works just as well.ย  Simmer until the cranberries burst and be sure to smash the heck out of them with a wooden spoon or potato smasher. ย You want to release the entire cranberry flavor, this also gives you the deepest cranberry color.ย  Another tip try substituting freshly squeezed orange juice instead of water for another level of flavor.

Cranberry Margarita
Author: Vianney Rodriguez
Ingredients
  • 3 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup piloncillo grated or sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup tequila
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup Cointreau
  • cranberries for garnish
  • lime wedge
  • salt
  • ice cubes
Instructions
  1. On a small plate spread salt.
  2. With lime wedges moisten rim of 4- 6 ounce glasses.
  3. Dip glasses into salt.
  4. Place glasses into freezer to chill.
  5. Simmer cranberries in a saucepan with 1/2 cup sugar of your choice and water.
  6. Simmer until cranberries burst. Smash the cranberries with a wooden spoon to release all the cranberry flavor.
  7. Strain and allow to cool. This should result in 1 cup of cranberry juice.
  8. In a pitcher combine tequila, cranberry juice, lime juice and Cointreau.
  9. Remove glasses from freezer and serve margarita mixture over ice.
  10. Garnish with cranberries.

There was a cranberry crisis at my grocery store this week and I was only able to score one bag to make my cranberry sauce. But the minute they’re restocked this weekend, I’m going to go buy a bag to make this! I love all of your creativity when it comes to margaritas!

My family is really big on tequila at the holidays. They usually just do shots, which I can’t possibly keep up with. I think this margarita may have to be my drink of choice!
