Agua mineral preparada is one of my must-have summer drinks. Agua mineral, fresh lime juice and plenty of Tajin combine perfectly to create a refreshing cooler that helps to beat the Texas heat.
I recently traveled to Laredo, Texas to visit a few of my go-to pulgas (flea markets) to buy props for an upcoming photo shoot. Mi carino and I love heading to Lardeo for the day- the pulgas, the food, and the people make it one of our favorite South Texas towns to visit.
As we browse the stalls for new props, we always purchase an agua mineral preparada. It is served in a HUGE styrofoam cup, rimmed with plenty of Tajin and loads of ice.
It is SO good!
Agua mineral preparada is very popular along the border. You can find agua mineral preparada at the food trucks, drive-thru mini markets and at the pulgas (this is my favorite place to purchase them).
Options include: chamoy, pickled vegetables, pickles and I have even seen fruit added with extra Tajin. All options look delicious, but I prefer the original version. It makes for one hell of a quencher in summer.
When we returned from Laredo, I found myself craving one, then thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to share this treasure from South Texas with you.
Agua mineral preparada is super simple to make – all you need is:
A Topo Chico, sparkling mineral water sourced and bottled in Monterrey, Mexico. You can find them in most Latin Markets, sold in glass bottles or sold individually in plastic bottles.
Fresh lime or lemon juice: I prefer lime over lemon (always), do not use the bottled stuff the fresh juice makes this drink.
Tajin: for rimming and sprinkling.
Ice: plenty of ice
To Make: run a lime around the glass, rim with Tajin.
Fill glass with ice, add fresh lime juice (1 half) per glass.
Top with Topo Chico, slowly stir, and garnish with extra Tajin.
