Pizza Cubano is a tasty twist on the Cubano sandwich. Made with store-bought pizza dough, shredded chicken, ham, caramelized onions, and Monterey jack.
My daughter loves Cubano sandwiches so I thought it would be fun to bake up a pizza featuring the ingredients in a Cubano. A spin on the traditional Cubano sandwich this pizza is delicious.
Making pizza at home doesn’t have to be hard – bring on the store-bought pizza dough.
With store-bought pizza dough you can bake up some amazing homemade pizza without the hassle of making your own dough. It’s also a great timesaver, not to mention the BEST ingredient to have on-hand for impromptu girls’ night or movie night.
Look for store-bought pizza dough in the deli area, in the refrigerated area next to the biscuits and or find frozen pizza dough in the freezer aisle next to the frozen pie shells or call your local pizzeria and inquire if they sell balls of dough.
I added caramelized onions to the mix, using Texas 1015 sweet onions. Cooked low & slow in a sauté pan over medium heat the onion turn golden brown, sweet, and delicious.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE THIS PIZZA
olive oil
onion
refrigerated pizza dough
Non-stick spray
salsa
mustard
store-bought rotisserie chicken, shredded
deli ham
Monterrey Jack shredded cheese
Cilantro
HOW TO MAKE PIZZA CUBANO
First, we make the caramelized onions. You can totally make these babies a few days in advance, store covered in fridge until ready to use.
In a sauté pan over medium heat add olive oil, onions, and salt.
Cook the onions until they are caramelized, about 20 minutes, stirring often.
Remove pan from heat and set aside.
If making in advance, allow onion to cool then store in fridge.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Liberally spray baking sheet with nonstick spray.
Place pizza dough on baking sheet and with hands spread dough in baking sheet.
Mix salsa and mustard in a bowl, spread over crust.
Top with chicken, with hands tear ham and drape over chicken.
Top with caramelized onions and cheese.
Bake until crust in lightly browned, about 12-15 minutes.
Top with cilantro, slice and serve.

- 1 medium TX 1015 Sweet Onion, or white onion sliced
- 1 pkg refrigerated pizza dough
- Non-stick spray
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 2 tablespoon mustard
- 2 cups store-bought rotisserie chicken shredded
- 4 slices deli ham
- 2 cups Monterrey Jack shredded cheese
- 1/4 cup cilantro
