It’s five o’clock time to whip up my frozen mango margaritas! Made from frozen mango chunks, tequila Blanco, lime juice and Cointreau in a blender my frozen mango margarita are muy delicioso.
Frozen margaritas are the epitome of summer bliss, and when you add the tropical sweetness of mango, you get a cocktail that’s both refreshing and irresistibly delicious.
Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ or just want to treat yourself, making a frozen mango margarita at home is easier than you think.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to crafting this perfect cocktail, along with some tips to ensure your frozen margaritas are always a hit.
How to Make Frozen Mango Margaritas at Home:
Ingredients You’ll Need:
Frozen Mango: 2 cups of diced mango – I keep frozen bags of fruit stashed away in my freezer whenever I crave a frozen margarita. Feel free to use this recipe with any frozen fruit.
Tequila Blanco: 4 ounces of your favorite Blanco tequila
Lime Juice: freshly squeezed lime juice
Cointreau: 1 1/2 ounce (for that citrusy kick)
Ice Water: in case the blender needs a little help moving, sometimes frozen fruit chunks freeze together, and the little bit of water can help break it up, without adding any additional flavor.
Tajin: For rimming the glass
Lime wedge: For rimming
Prepare the Glass: Start by rimming your margarita glass with tajin. To do this, rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip it into a plate of tajin. This adds a nice contrast to the sweetness of the mango.
Blend the Ingredients: In a blender, combine the frozen mango chunks, tequila, lime juice, Cointreau, and ice water (if needed).
Blend until smooth.
Adjust Consistency: If your margarita is too thick, you can add a bit more lime juice or a splash of water to thin it out. If it’s too thin, add more frozen mango or ice and blend again until you reach the desired consistency.
Serve: Pour the frozen mango margarita into your prepared glass.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
My mango margarita features tequila Blanco, which I adore. I often get asked how to pick a great tequila Blanco and wanted to share a few tips.
Five Tips for Buying Tequila Blanco
- Look for Tequila labeled 100% Agave
When purchasing Tequila Blanco, always ensure the label states “100% agave.” This guarantees that the tequila is made entirely from blue agave plants, without any added sugars or fillers. Tequilas labeled as “mixto” contain only 51% agave and are mixed with other sugars, leading to a less authentic taste and a harsher finish.
- Research the Distillery
Each distillery imparts a unique character to its tequila. Researching the distillery can give you insights into the production methods and reputation of the brand. Some distilleries are renowned for their traditional methods and quality control, which can lead to a better-tasting tequila.
- Understand the Flavor Profile
Tequila Blanco, also known as silver or white tequila, is typically unaged or aged for a short period in stainless steel or neutral oak barrels. This results in a fresh, vibrant flavor profile with notes of citrus, pepper, and herbs. If you prefer a more intense agave flavor with minimal influence from wood, Tequila Blanco is the best choice.
- Price Doesn’t Always Equal Perfection
While price can be an indicator of quality, it’s not always the case. Some excellent Tequilas Blanco are reasonably priced, offering great value. Read reviews and consider trying smaller bottles or samples before committing to a more expensive option.
- Consider Your Cocktail Preference
Will you be shaking up frozen margaritas or savoring a Blanco neat? If your plan is to shake up cocktails with tequila Blanco, a good quality yet affordable Blanco will serve you well. However, if you plan to simply sip tequila Blanco, a premium Blanco with its complex flavor profile is the way to go.
