With Cinco de Mayo quickly approaching I thought it was the perfect time to share another amazing beer cocktail featuring cerveza Montejo.  Of course we all know that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day, but I’m not one to pass up any opportunity to celebrate with a festive cocktail.  Today I share with you a cocktail that is a mix of two cocktails to create a refreshing vibrant cocktail. Bloody Beer.

A bloody mary meets the Mexican michelada bloody beers are amazing.  I have beefed up this cocktail to give your mouth a burst of freshness, plus a bite of heat. Fresh lime juice, tomato juice, a few dashes of hot sauce, worcestershire sauce and pickled jalapeno juice combine to make a base for our chilled beer.  No mixes here, please. This savory cocktail recipe is simple to make with a few ingredients from your pantry, so no need to reach that for that bloody Mary mix, feel free to toss it. After sipping on this bloody beer you will never use a mix again.

I garnish my bloody beers with fresh celery stalks, pickled jalapenos and crispy bacon. Crispy bacon you ask? The saltiness from the bacon adds another layer of flavor to this beer based cocktail as it mingles with the chilled beer. Trust me you will thank me later, plus who doesn’t appreciate a few nibbles with their cocktail.

This cocktail is a pairs well with any Cinco de Mayo appetizers, is perfect for bunch and even better sipped on a lazy Sunday.  Chill your glasses and beer a few hours ahead to keep your cocktail nice and cool.  Plan ahead for entertaining by baking off the bacon beforehand. Line a baking sheet with bacon and bake until crisp at 350 degrees.

Brewed in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca for more than 100 years Montejo was introduced to the Unites States in 2014, lucky us!  Perfect for entertaining outdoors or for your next fiesta Montejo pairs well with Mexican cuisine and is amazing base to create cocktails.  I’m excited to be joining the Viva Montejo crew in celebrating this delicious golden lager.  I’ll be sharing a series of cocktail featuring Montejo, so keep an eye out for future beer cocktails that are sure to be the hit of your next fiesta!
