Dia de Los Muertos with Wilton

I hosted houseful of kiddos for a day of sharing or introducing โ€œwhat exactly is Dia de Los Muertos.โ€ย  I spent the day sharing this tradition with them, discussing how to build an altar, important symbols that are associated with dia de los muertos and answering any questions or concerns. Wilton was more than happy to host this event especially when they knew I would be sharing my heritage with children. I adore Wilton and over the years have used many of their products to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos.

All set to host my first #diadelosmuertos children's fiesta with @wiltoncakes A celebration that recognizes the past and honors the people you loved. In sharing this important holiday I hope my children will continue to remember their loved ones and continue this colorful tradition.

We made paper marigolds:

Marigolds, cempasuchil is known as the "flower of the dead," symbolizes the brevity of life. Their color and scent is used to guide the spirits to their homes and altar. @wiltoncakes #diadelosmuertos

We made papel picado:

Papel Picado, represents wind and the fragility of life. Used to decorate the altar this custom comes from the Aztecs who used paper in their rituals @wiltoncakes #diadelosmuertos

And decorated sugar skulls for them to take home:

Sugar skulls were originally made from amaranth seeds, their colorful designs represent happiness, love of life and the individual personality of the loved one who has passed. #diadelosmuertos

I made the cakes using Wilton’s Decorator Chocie Yellow cake mix. I frosted them the evening before, placed them in the fridge ready for them to decorate. A tray of Wilton color mists, icings and gels and shimmer dust they were ready to be deocrated.

The kids had so much fun, Thanks Wilton!
