Bamboo Cocktail
Friends, cocktails, small bites and more cocktails the Italian tradition of the aperitivo is a delicious concept I am willing to embrace happily. Aperitivo comes from the Latin word meaning “to open.” An event focused on spending time with friends, enjoying a few cocktails along with nibbles that are meant to stimulate the appetite before dinner.
I recently partnered with Carpano Dry and San Giuseppe Salami to create my own version of aperitivo hour. I decide to kick off aperitivo hour with the bamboo cocktail that paired perfectly with the tasty treats San Giuseppe sent me – Hot Soppressata, Sweet Soppressata along with fresh parmigiano cheese.
To my board I added a fig jam which we spooned over a slice of hot soppressata and topped it with a piece of parmigiano, amazing.
Let’s have an aperitivo!
Carpano Dry is a clear coloured vermouth, yet vibrant and bright like platinum. And just like platinum, Carpano Dry maintains its characteristics over time, thanks to the distinctive ingredients in its recipe and the quality of the Fratelli Branca Distillerie production processes.
Its aroma is characterised by a balanced and well-structured, yet not overwhelming richness of scents: candied fruit, spices, coriander, incense, lemon essential oil.
It is the “winey”, slightly acidic taste of the Vermouth that comes through initially, followed by an interesting fresh, balsmic note which lingers as an aftertaste: citrus fruits and green apple.
The Bamboo cocktail is a variation of the martini, created in the 1890s by Louis Eppinger is a great cocktail to serve during aperitivo hour. Made with an equal mix of dry sherry and dry vermouth this stunning cocktail also includes bitters and is served well chilled with a lemon twist, simplicity at its best. I used Carpano Dry vermouth to make my bamboo cocktail which went well with the rich soppressata and parmigiano.
