Hearty ground beef spiced with garlic, chili powder, cumin then finished off with a hint of freshness from lime juice are the ultimate weeknight topping for tostadas.
Hey y’all I am excited to team up Beef Loving Texans to share my recipe for Cumin Lime Ground Beef Tostadas that are always a hit with my family on tostada night.
Nothing makes me happier than tostada night. Crunchy tostadas shells topped with creamy refried beans, ground beef, endless toppings served family-style, tostadas night is always a fun evening.
Today, I want to share with you one of my go-to ground beef recipes that my kids request every tostada night. Hearty ground beef spiced with garlic, chili powder, cumin then finished off with a hint of freshness from lime juice – my cumin lime ground beef tostadas are always a hit.
This recipe begins with cooking ground beef with diced onions in a skillet. Be sure to break up the mixture with a spoon, you want the ground beef to be in smaller pieces. Drain any excess grease from the pan, this prevents our tostadas from becoming greasy, which will make our tostada soggy. After we add all our yummy spices, we hit our ground beef with a splash of fresh lime juice – then simmer. The lime juice adds freshness and perks up our spices.
I served my cumin lime ground beef over pre-made tostada shells I picked up at my local carniceria. To serve, I spread a spoonful of refried beans on each tostada shell, then topped with my cumin lime ground beef. Served alongside crumbled queso fresco, salsa verde and lime wedges for an easy weeknight meal.
Tips on Serving My Cumin Lime Ground Beef Tostadas:
I like to set out an array of toppings, so everyone is free to create their own perfect tostadas. Here are a few examples of tasty toppings:
Refried beans, diced tomatoes, crumbled queso fresco, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, salsa, sautéed mushrooms, rajas de poblano and Mexican crema.
A tostada is a fried or baked crispy corn tortilla that can be topped with endless combinations. Refried beans or guacamole are usually spread on tostadas acting like the glue for all the toppings.
You can find pre-made tostada shells next to the flour and corn tortillas at your local grocery store. New flavors of tostada shells are being made locally which I love. The tostadas featured today are blue corn and chia seeds – delicious. I have also found tostada made from amaranth, nopales, blue corn and red tortillas, so many options, fun!
If you cannot find pre-made tostada shells at your grocery store, making tostadas at home is a snap.
Lightly fry your corn tortillas in oil until golden brown and crispy, then drain on paper towels. You can also bake corn tortillas in a 400? oven until crisp. Simply place corn tortillas on a baking sheet, lightly brush each side with vegetable oil and bake for 4 to 6 minutes on each side or until crispy.
I hope you give these tasty tostadas a try, they are delicious. For more inspiration, beef recipes and learn more about the talented Texans who raise, cook, and share the wonder of beef Texan-style head over to Beef Loving Texans.
