Ruby red grapefruit juice combines with tequila, fresh lemon juice, agave, and egg white to create a luscious, creamy Ruby Red Grapefruit Tequila Sour. A Texas twist on the classic Whiskey sour my Ruby Red Grapefruit Tequila sour is the perfect start to the weekend.
It’s the weekend y’all …and I’m shaking up Ruby Red Grapefruit Tequila Sours, swoon!
I’m revamping a classic whiskey sour with two of my favorite ingredients today – ruby red grapefruit juice and tequila. My ruby red grapefruit tequila sour is a stunner guys. Briming with sour and creaminess, a whiskey sour is one of my favorite cocktails to shake when I have dinner guests.
A classic whiskey sour is traditionally made with whiskey, lemon juice, a sweetener and egg white. The egg white balances out the sour, but also adds another flavor texture to the cocktail.
You can make this cocktail without the egg, but I highly suggest you try it with the egg white. I simply adore the creaminess it adds to cocktails and it pairs wonderfully with the sour from the ruby red grapefruit.
A traditional whiskey sour is finished off with bitters. I omitted this step because I really wanted the ruby red grapefruit juice to shine through.
HOW TO MAKE RUBY RED GRAPEFRUIT TEQUILA SOUR
Ruby Red Grapefruit: Grown in Texas I adore these plump ruby red skinned grapefruits. Slightly bitter, slightly sweet these gems work their magic when added to cocktails. From their zest, juice, segments or candied ruby red grapefruits add a burst of flavor to cocktails. If you cannot find ruby red grapefruits in your areas feel free to substitute with grapefruit, you find locally.
Tequila Blanco: Tequila Blanco and citrus juices are a match made in cocktail heaven. From the paloma to the margarita to a sour citrus juice work beautifully with tequila Blanco. I love using tequila Blanco with grapefruit juice as it balances out the sour.
Egg White: Adding an egg white to a cocktail adds creaminess, help to balance out the flavors and adds a layer of texture that really elevates a cocktail. I know the addition of egg white can make some people squeamish, but I highly suggest at least trying it once. To create the foamy egg white, you will really want to shake your cocktail vigorously for at least 30 seconds. When straining you are looking for a thick frothy white head that is half an inch separated from the rest of the cocktail, this is a good sign you have shaken your cocktail long enough. If adding a raw egg white make you nervous you can use pasteurized egg white which are sold in cartons or simply omit from the cocktail.
