My raspberry tequila sour is bursting with summer delight โ fresh raspberries, tequila, fresh lemon juice topped with a creamy frothy egg.
Yโall, know I love tequila, pero in this sour cocktail it really shines. Tequila Blanco is crisp, clean, and floral which adds a punchy level to this cocktail. Tequila combined with fresh lime juice and a bit of simple syrup is somewhere between a typical sour cocktail and a classic Margarita. It’s lacking Cointreau or triple sec, but the overall taste is still comparable to a margarita.
If shaking a egg white is not your thing, omit it, but I always suggest giving it a try it. The egg white adds a special touch to this cocktail.
A tequila sour hails from the family of the sour cocktails which include the gin sour and whiskey sour.
A sour cocktail consists of three parts โ spirit, sour and sweetness.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE A SOUR COCKTAIL
fresh raspberries
tequila Blanco or Anejo I used Tuyo tequila Blanco for this cocktail, but Anejo works beautifully as well.
fresh lemon juice
simple syrup
Angostura orange bitters
egg white, at room temperature (optional)
HOW TO MAKE A RASPBERRY TEQUILA SOUR
Place raspberries, tequila, and lemon juice in cocktail shaker. You can also use a canning jar with lid if you do not have a cocktail shaker.
Muddle to break up raspberries. You can use the end of a wooden spoon to muddle if you do not have a muddler.
Add simple syrup, bitters, and egg white.
Cover cocktail shaker and shake without ice vigorously for 10 seconds. This is called a dry shake, shaking the cocktail without ice. This extra step helps gives us the delicate eggy froth on our cocktail.
Add ice to cocktail shaker and shake again vigorously for 30 seconds.
Strain into glass and garnish. Straining helps to catch all the bits of muddle raspberries. You are looking for a clear liquid with a frothy top.
MAS SOUR COCKTAIL RECIPES
- 6-7 raspberries
- 2 ounces tequila Blanco or Anejo
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- Few dashed of Angostura orange bitters
- 1 teaspoon egg white at room temperature (optional)

Place raspberries, tequila, and lemon juice in cocktail shaker. Muddle to break up raspberries.

Cover cocktail shaker and shake without ice vigorously for 10 seconds.
