The countdown has begun to Thanksgiving! I love Thanksgiving, comfort food, family and of course football, but this day can sometimes be overwhelming. Trust me I’ve been there. Thanksgiving mishaps haunt us all. No one wants to be the person who ruins the gravy or bakes the bird to a crisp. The first time I hosted Thanksgiving for my family the turkey was so dry no amount of gravy could save it, what a mess! But year after year I became more confident in the kitchen, picked up a few tricks along the way and relaxed. I focused on what… Read More
Mexican Cappuccino
Mexican Cappuccino Today is National Cappuccino Day! Hooray!! Made with espresso, hot milk and a thick cap of foam a Cappuccino is a treat any day of the week. Today we put a Mexican spin on our favorite morning treat with pinch of ground chile ancho, cinnamon and cocoa. Enjoy! Cappuccino was created in Italy in the 1600’s. It got its name from an Italian order of monks known as the Catholic Capuchins—a group of friars that wore dark brown hoods, similar to the color of the drink.
Best Latina Food Blogger
I just got back from the LATISM 2012 conference Houston, Texas last week and I am still reeling from the experience!! I finally had the chance to HUG all the amazing people who I have connected with on social media, connect with new friends, who share the same passion I have for blogging and be inspired to continue this journey. I had the honor to speak at a health reform panel Eat healthy, Live Longer and Better along with Laura Fuentes from MOMables, Deborah Deras, International Speaker and Claudia Kolker, Author of The Immigrant Advantage and Award winning journalist…. Atole de Avena
Atole de Avena Growing up when the days became shorter and the mornings were chilly my mother would make us Avena before we headed out for school. Milky oatmeal laced with cinnamon and piloncillo served in a coffee mug was the perfect method to soothe us before a long day in class. I always felt a bit more grown up sipping my avena from a coffee cup alongside my dad while he had his morning coffee. The thick, steamy avena would hit your pancita and be just the thing needed to hold you over until lunch time. Sometimes we would… Read More
Easy Mexican Hot Chocolate
Easy Mexican Hot Chocolate We are slowly putting together our altar this year for Dia de Los Muertos. This day is dedicated to reflecting on the lives of loved ones we have lost. We celebrate their lives and rejoice in their memories. This year our altar will be filled with sugar skulls, marigolds, candles, papel picado and personal mementos. I hope that with sharing my families past my girls will learn about their culture, grow to appreciate their heritage and remember those who came before them. Last week my girls made Dia de Los Muertos mugs and… Read More
Latism and Sweet Life Nominated for Best Latina Food Blogger!!!
I’m heading to Houston this week for the Latism Conference– Latinos in Social Media after a fun filled weekend in Chicago (more on that a little later). I have made it my mission to push myself more and more each year with my blog. Writing more, becoming more familiar with my camera and collectively putting myself in positions that would have sent me in a complete frenzy last year. I was asked to speak this year on the Eat Healthy, Live Longer and Better panel and without even stopping to second guess myself I said YES! I’m excited, thrilled… Read More
