Dia de Los Muertos with Wilton
Dia de Los Muertos with Wilton I hosted houseful of kiddos for a day of sharing or introducing “what exactly is Dia de Los Muertos.” I spent the day sharing this tradition with them, discussing how to build an altar, important symbols that are associated with dia de los muertos and answering any questions or concerns. Wilton was more than happy to host this event especially when they knew I would be sharing my heritage with children. I adore Wilton and over the years have used many of their products to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos. All set to host… Read More
Homemade Marigold Soda
Homemade Marigold Soda Making homemade soda at home is easy, delicious and healthier. Begin with an infused syrup base to make your homemade soda and top it off with sparkling water, club soda or seltzer. Marigolds are ideal for infusing they are aromatic, light while adding a touch of warmth. Pickled Red Onions
Pickled Red Onions I love pickled onions! These onions make everything from tacos to nachos to tostadas even more delicious. I make them at least once a week and recently enjoyed them with slow cooked pork, pictured below – cochinita pibil. One of the earliest recipes I tried from Cooking Light, these onions are a staple in my kitchen. I suggest you make a double batch, store them in the fridge and enjoy them all week. Try them in a grilled cheese sandwich, yum! Verizon was kind enough to send me a tablet to play with in the kitchen…. Read More
Dia de Los Muertos – Marigold Margarita
Marigold Margarita Tequila infused with marigolds is at the base of this floral margarita. I made the marigold infused tequila in honor of my abuelito for Dia de Los Muertos. With a splash of fresh citrus juice, served chilled this margarita is a flowery delight. Many of my margaritas are made by the pitcher or served on the rocks (over ice), but this margarita is best served with no ice. Ice dilutes the floral flavor, which really makes this margarita. Shake well in a cocktail shaker and strain in a chilled glass, rimmed with salt.
Slow Cooker Posole
Slow Cooker Posole A hearty Mexican soup posole (pozole) can be made with chicken or pork. A wonderful fall or winter treat posole is a family favorite during the Holiday season and was one of my biggest cravings when I was pregnant with my second child. I craved it so much that often had my mami come visit me in Killeen, where my husband was stationed at Fort Hood to make it for me. It seems no matter how many times I attempted to make posole it never tasted quite as good as hers. Mami said the intense… Read More

Dia de Los Muertos – Marigold Infused Tequila
Dia de Los Muertos – Infused Marigold Tequila I like to think that if my abuelito still lived today we would make quite the pair. A quiet, reserved man with a cheerful sparkle in his eyes enjoyed a good stiff drink after a long day at work. Papi, my dad adored him. It was sweet to see him become excited as we drove up for a visit, my abuelito would open the gate and papi would drive in and jump out of the car to greet him. A giant hug, a few laughs both with a cheerful sparkle in their… Read More
