I am overjoyed, my mom is with me for a short visit. We have passed the days sipping coffee, walking at the park and talking food. She is my idol. In the kitchen she is queen. Every cherished childhood food memory has included my mom and one of her flavorful plates of food. Her patience, her ease feeding large crowds, the creativity of shaping a few ingredients into something extraordinary..she’s talented I tell you and I hope to be half the cook she is one day. Today as we walked at the park our conversation turned to empanadas. I can clearly remember her sitting at the table pinching the dough of her famous… Read More

Livin' the Sweet Life Chicken Tacos
I’m a blusher. If you ever meet me, prepare yourself there will be blushing. I sometimes, no always, wear extra blush so when I blush you can’t see it. Does it make sense? No sense, that’s why it works. Did I ever blush when I clicked on Drick’s blog, an entire post dedicated to me. Blushing. A recipe named after me. Blushing.

Mango Agave Granola
Do you ever have one of those weeks, I don’t know how to explain it, just a weird week. The week was a blur of lost items, confusion in dates and emotional roller coaster. The family felt my unbalance. They quickly swooped in, to make fun of me, yes they took any opportunity to crack a joke. I have to admit it really helped, laughing at yourself somehow cleanses your attitude. Thankfully today is Friday, I am so over this week. Shall we cleanse together over a bowl of granola and share a laugh? Funny thing is, I can really woof down granola. I have admired this… Read More
A few of my favorite things
I am at this very moment scrubbing toilets, up to my eyeballs in laundry and if I survive I might steam my floors. I leave you with a few of my favorite things, all sweets – a girl needs motivation. Enjoy!
Pinto Bean Chowder
Growing up the norm in our house was a pot of beans. Well, not much has changed as I each week make a pot of beans for my family. Beans aside from being a Hispanic staple are versatile in meal planning. The possibilities for beans are endless, appetizers, breakfast, brunch, sides, soups and even desserts, yes desserts (more on this later). As I gaze through any new cookbook my fingers quickly skim the pages for any sign of a new bean recipe. When I came upon this Pinto Bean Chowder I was intrigued, one associates chowder with seafood, corn or potatoes, but beans..the was… Read More
